Review:

In SUZIE AND THE SPACE BUGS, Suzie and the crew of the spaceship crash land on an unfamiliar planet. They immediately find themselves in danger!

This second book is based entirely on one planet, rather than the many planets of the previous book, which allows for more time to explore it. This planet shifts constantly, changing its layout above and below ground, and with dizzyingly bright, colourful plants. Plus its inhabitants are a little unnerving even if they are playful.

It’s also a story about the consequences of lies used to protect one’s pride, but also friendship. Suzie and Frank slowly continue their journey towards getting along as they’re forced to work together in a few tight spots. Despite Suzie being a ‘boring human’ with no special powers, it’s getting harder for Frank to pretend she’s useless. I really like that the heroine of this series doesn’t have magic, but is an ordinary girl using her brain to save the day!

Once again, the book is jam-packed with facts, and the inclusion of a species called knowledge worms only adds to the plethora of factoids for readers both in the prose and in the little hexagons. It’s a vast range from space to biology to computer science – and I love books full of STEM!
