Review:

FATE OF THE SUN KING is the next page-turning instalment in the Artefacts of Ouranos series.

Lor is the main narrator again, with Nadir and Gabriel as secondary narrators. I really liked getting a glimpse into Gabriel’s head and the secrets he is holding. Rather than keeping the secrets from the reader, we find them out pretty early on, meaning the book focuses on how they’re affecting him.

There are also some chapters from long dead monarchs. These reveal the history of the world, the events that led to the current status quo and the truth behind the magical objects Lor – and others – are hunting for.

The book begins with a cast of characters that provides a (very) whistlestop tour of events, giving the main reveals about each character and their current relationships. The tone of this was highly irreverent and very fun to read. It sounded more like the author talking directly to her audience than traditional recaps.

As the dedication promises, in this book, Lor and Nadir work out what their relationship is and jump off the cliff that path leads to. The book very much leans into the steamy side of fantasy romance.

The book ends quite dramatically, in such a way that means it’s good the series finale is out in not too many months.
